On the way to Rajghat

Yesterday evening I got a text message on my phone from my institution that I have to come down to the office and verify myself for the coming semester examination. Got betrayed twice in like two hours in that evening.
Next morning I woke up and it was quite early than I usually wake up. I had to put like 5 alarms to wake myself up. Got dressed and I went out to call a cab. I used Uber. I trust Uber than Ola. There are personal reasons which I am not confident to share here. I waited for like 10mins. A guy named Parveen came, his age might be around 37-40. Before I enter his car, I greeted him ‘Good morning’. He replied very calmly. From his accent I figured out he was from Haryana. We started the trip. After 300 meters. He started talking about his life. He said he was a farmer but Behen**** Congress forced him to sell his land, which at last he did and started driving cabs. I was listening to whatever he was saying and all those bad words. We both were very deep in his stories. He was still driving and whenever I wanted to disagree I smiled. I guess he understood.
From his life stories now we were on Hunger topic. I was saying that the Hunger level in India is worse than Nepal and Bangladesh. He agreed then he started if you forced farmers to leave their farms and work in industries and do jobs then who will produce the food. I was confused for a while. I smiled because I didn’t have anything to say as he was right in some way. We were so much into the topic that we took a wrong right turn which made my destination a little bit more far but I was okay. We were having a good talk.
He said why government don’t say to unemployed people to do farming or plant trees which gives fruit in their part of lands. So that they can feed themselves. Why are they forcing the people to find jobs? He added there is lack of food thats why there is hunger. He even said that education is not needed. We can educate our sons and daughters. I was scratching my head and thinking does he listens to himself while he was talking.
We reached my destination and before he drop me he said someday after I am done doing this job I’ll go back to my village and start farming again. If I don’t do it then who will? My sons won’t never do it, I know. We greeted each other again and I left.
I did all my works in the institution and got a photograph with one of the biggest Mahatama Gandhi’s statue I have ever seen.
I was quite thirsty and started searching for water. Didn’t find any. I don’t know how come!
I booked a cab to return home. An old guy came. His name was Bhej and his age was around 55. Same age as my father who is 55 years old. I greeted Namaste and he replied too. I took out my file and was making my documents in proper way. He asked are you doing research? I laughed a little and said no I am just a student. He asked my name and where I was from, I told him I am from Manipur. Suddenly in a very impressed and interesting way he said “Oh people from your side ( means the 7 states ) are very educated and very hard working. He said many people live around Mahipalpur ( near the Delhi airport ) and doing jobs and even the ladies are well educated and doing jobs in big post. I felt proud inside myself. I was having a huge smile on my face. My eyes were glittering. I said yeah we work hard because we came far away from our place and we can’t afford to fail. He said he was from Bihar and he is living in Delhi for the last 25 years. He added he got a son who is in class 12th. He said I won’t eat but I will send my son to the best school I can afford. He asked about my courses. He asked about my father’s job and everything. I told him clearly and honestly.
Then I got a call and I was on it for a while. We were going to reach my place. He suddenly said “Betaji (dear son), ab toh bas aap logo ke upar hai yeh desh ( the country now depends on you ). Humara toh time khatam hone wala hain, toh aap ache se padna aur kamyab hone (our time is almost over, so you study hard and be successful). I said thank you. We reached and I greeted him and left.
In like 4 hours I learn so much from two people. I saw the perspective towards life from two different people. I even saw the perspective towards education from two people. One believes in educating ourself and feed our own stomach not others. And the other person believes in serving for everyone.
Life is amazing. You can learn from everyone. You can talk to anyone too!Trust yourself and be yourself.
Thank you so much for reading.
Will keep on updating.
Dan out!

  1. It was nice to read this. Everyone has a perspective and it's important for us to honour that. We may disagree with them on the points, but that doesn't mean that we face away from our duty as listeners. What you did was just provided a listening ear for the stories that many of us ignore.

Everyone has a story, and not everyone listens to it. Thanks for sharing. Hope to see more of your updates. All the best :D
